What We Hold

DIVERSE LANDSCAPES IN STEPHENSON COUNTY

Since 1970, we have acquired 12 properties totaling 522 acres. We transferred several to public partners like the Freeport Park District, Jane Addams Trail Commission, and the Pecatonica Prairie Path.

Currently, JAPF holds 9 properties totaling 416 acres throughout Stephenson County. One is a 200-acre wildlife sanctuary, available only for educational pursuits. Six are open to the public, and we invite you to explore these sites in Freeport, Orangeville, Buena Vista, and Rock City. One of these properties, a remnant prairie, is a dedicated Illinois Nature Preserve. Oak-hickory woodlands, tallgrass prairie, streams, and bottomland forest make up the remaining properties.
